Purpose of TSHD's
The Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger is a self propelled vessel used for land reclamation, and capital dredging operations. TSHD is equıipped with suction pipes with a drag head to collect the soil, sand, silt, and gravel from the seabed. A pump system sucks up a mixture of soil and water and discharges it in the hold of the ship.
TSHD
TSHD is designed to transport dredged material to long distances. The fully loaded vessel either sails to the unloading site, to deposit the material on the seabed through bottom doors or reclaim by rainbow technique. The material can also be pumped ashore through a pipeline, where it can be reused.
